7th Graders will study: The Great Global Convergence
The period from 1400 to 1800 was a period of innovation, communication, globalization, and exchange that linked individuals and societies interdependently. Every region of the world became intricately connected to every other region through exploration, conquest, and colonization. This period became known as the Great Global Convergence. Countries explored, conquered, and colonized for a variety of reasons including need or desire for resources, new trade markets, and expanded power, often to the detriment of the indigenous peoples. Also in this era, the world’s population began to increase dramatically, breaking through the ceilings on growth that had previously governed human affair.
